Pedestrian Accidents in Texas

Texas consistently reports one of the highest rates of pedestrian fatalities in the United States. In 2022 alone, over 5,000 crashes involving pedestrians occurred in the state, resulting in numerous injuries and fatalities. Urban areas like Houston see particularly high rates of pedestrian accidents due to high traffic volumes, complex roadways, and speeding concerns.

It’s important to understand some of the key factors that contribute to pedestrian crashes. Below are some insights:

  • Distracted Driving – Drivers who are distracted by cell phones, GPS devices, or other activities often fail to notice pedestrians in crosswalks or on the roadside.
  • Poor Visibility – Crashes often occur at night or during inclement weather when it is harder for drivers to see pedestrians. Wearing reflective clothing and using marked crosswalks can help reduce risk.
  • Driver Speeding – Higher speeds significantly reduce the time drivers have to react, making pedestrian accidents more severe.
