Stopping Unethical Attorneys

Our Corpus Christi Lawyers Fight to Expose Barratry

Attorneys are held to a high standard when it comes to their conduct, and this includes the solicitation of clients. While most Texas attorneys practice ethically, some partake in outright atrocious conduct in trying to solicit new clients. Often referred to as “ambulance chasing” or “case running,” these attorneys aggressively pursue vulnerable clients.

The Edwards Law Firm is dedicated to stopping unethical attorneys. In fact, William R. Edwards and Billy Edwards played a crucial role in passing the only barratry law in the nation, which provides civil recourse for victims of barratry. Honesty and ethics are the only way to build the foundation for a strong legal practice. We represent clients across Texas who have been taken advantage of by unethical attorneys.

Texas Government Code § 82.0651

Barratry is the practice of illegal solicitation – when lawyers aggressively and dishonestly solicit clients when they are at their most vulnerable. It’s a felony in Texas. It includes offering money or gifts to injured people, their families, or their friends for hiring a particular attorney. Barratry is bad for people who need lawyers, and it hurts ethical lawyers and corrupts the legal system. Mr. Edwards helped to write and pass the only law in the nation that allows victims of barratry to sue these unethical attorneys for a $10,000 civil penalty, actual damages, and attorney’s fees (Texas Government Code § 82.0651).
