Safety Defects Prompt Toyota, Hyundai to Recall New Vehicles

Toyota is recalling about 65,000 model year 2018 Tundras and Sequoias, claiming they are at risk for having their electronic stability control systems shut down unexpectedly. These systems help drivers avoid crashes by reducing the danger of skidding, or losing control as a result of over-steering.

Hyundai is recalling nearly 44,000 model year 2018 Sante Fe and Santa Fe Sport vehicles because they are at risk for the steering wheel breaking away from the steering column.

Both manufacturers said they would begin notifying owners in March and that dealers will inspect vehicles and make any necessary repairs free of charge. To see if your vehicle is affected, go to www.safercars.gov and enter the vehicle’s VIN number. Questions? Call Toyota customer service at 800-331-4331, or Hyundai customer service at (800) 633-5151.
