A long-time community supporter, the Edwards Law firm is the title sponsor of the 2016 5K Superhero Fun Run/Walk, a major fundraiser to benefit Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of the Coastal Bend.
The event is Saturday, April 30, 2016, starting at 8 a.m., Heritage Park, 1581 N. Chaparral St., Corpus Christi. The Fun Run/Walk also offers special races for children and a costume contest.
CASA recruits and trains volunteers to serve as advocates for abused and neglected children in foster care who are going through the court system. Volunteers serve as the “eyes and ears” of the judge who ultimately decides that child’s fate.
“CASA volunteers bring a strong voice and a helping heart to find each child a safe, permanent home. But right now only 363 of the 945 foster children in Nueces, San Patricio, and Aransas Counties have a CASA volunteer assigned to them,” said Billy Edwards.
“It’s urgent that more volunteers come forward. As a community, we all must do our part to ensure these kids have the best chance in life,” Edwards said.
The law firm has put together an employee Fun Run/Walk team and provided other volunteers for the event.
All proceeds from the Superhero race go to support CASA’s costs of recruiting and training volunteers.
CASA of the Coastal Bend offers on-going information and training sessions for persons interested in becoming a CASA volunteer.
