Faulty Airbags Blamed in Mazda Recall of 270,000 Vehicles
Mazda is recalling 270,000 vehicles because chemicals in their defective Takata airbags may deteriorate, causing them to deploy with too much force and send shrapnel flying. Affected are the following Mazda models:
- 2003-2008 Mazda 6
- 2006 -2007 MazdaSpeed6
- 2004-2006 MPV
Mazda urges owners to bring affected vehicles to their dealers as soon as possible for free repairs. Vehicles in hot, humid areas are considered more at risk. Over the last several years, about 50 million vehicles with Takata airbag inflators have been recalled in the U.S., making it the largest recall in the nation’s history. So far, the airbags are blamed for 22 deaths and more than 180 injuries. Go to safercar.gov and enter your vehicle’s VIN to see if it is included in this recall or any other.
