Power Steering Issue Prompts Recall of Nearly 700,000 GM Trucks in U.S.

Posted on in Vehicle Recalls

A potential software glitch that could cause a temporary loss of power steering has forced General Motors to recall more than 690,000 Chevy and GMC pickups from the 2014 model year.

Affected are:

  • 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
  • 2014 GMC Sierra 1500

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the power loss is most likely to occur during slow turns. The loss of power lasts for about one second; however, NHTSA said the loss and sudden return of power steering could cause drivers to lose control of the steering wheel, increasing the chance of a crash. Owners will be notified and dealers will update the software at no charge. To see if your truck is in the recall, go to the NHTSA recall website and type in your VIN number. You can also call Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020 or GMC customer service at 1-800-432-8782 and ask about recall number 17276.
