Fire Risk Leads Nissan to Issue “Do Not Drive Warning” for 240,000 Vehicles

Posted on in Personal Injury

If you own a late-model Nissan and the anti-lock brake warning light stays on for more than 10 seconds, Nissan says don't drive the vehicle and park it outdoors, away from structures and other cars. A defect in the anti-lock brake pump can leak brake fluid onto a circuit board, causing an electrical short and a fire, Nissan said. Due to this risk, Nissan is recalling some 240,000 vehicles to check and replace faulty pumps in more than half of them. Models affected are:

  • 2015 to 2017 Nissan Murano
  • 2016 and 2017 Nissan Maxima
  • 2017 through 2018 Nissan Pathfinder
  • 2017 Infiniti QX60 vehicles

Some Muranos were recalled for the same problem in 2016. Nissan said if the anti-lock brake light stays on, owners should immediately contact Nissan or Infiniti to have the vehicle towed to a dealer. Dealers will inspect the pump serial numbers and replace them if necessary starting Oct. 15. Most of the recalled vehicles are in the U.S., Canada and Mexico. To see if your vehicle is affected, enter its VIN number at the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website.
