About Charlie's Place

The Coastal Bend is extremely fortunate to have great non-profits that directly support our community and those who live in it. Charlie's Place Recovery Center is one of the many non-profits helping members of our community recovering from addiction get back on their feet.

In their 50 years of service, they've become the largest non-profit residential treatment center in South Texas. They extend a variety of services to men and women 18 and older who are starting down the road to recovery.

In order to continue to provide the important services they offer, they rely on financial support from the community. Now you have an opportunity to have a fun night while giving back to a worthy cause!

Thanks to everyone who supported the 11th Annual CASA of the Coastal Bend 5K Fun Run/Walk fundraiser on April 30, the event set records both in participation – 775 – and money raised — $58,000!

The money will support CASA's goal of making sure kids in foster homes in Nueces, San Patricio and Aransas counties get a CASA volunteer advocate. These advocates help the children find safe, permanent homes.

The Edwards Law Firm had the honor of being the title sponsor this year, which was great fun for the whole staff and me. My wife and I had a great time handing out ribbons to the children who participated in the 1K. We had 11 members of the firm who participated. One of them, Deborah Blanco, also served as a costume contest judge. The costume contest, by the way, gave away some $2,500 in donated prizes – another generous gift from the community.

A long-time community supporter, the Edwards Law firm is the title sponsor of the 2016 5K Superhero Fun Run/Walk, a major fundraiser to benefit Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of the Coastal Bend.

The event is Saturday, April 30, 2016, starting at 8 a.m., Heritage Park, 1581 N. Chaparral St., Corpus Christi. The Fun Run/Walk also offers special races for children and a costume contest.

The Edwards Law Firm took the company that imported dangerous Chinese-made lighters to trial and proved violations of U.S. safety laws. We secured not only justice but a sizeable settlement for the family. The importer brought hundreds of thousands of these unsafe lighters to the U.S. but failed to safety test them.

Christina's four young children were horribly burned after one of them flicked a “childproof” disposable lighter and ignited a flame that set off an inferno inside the family's car. These young victims spent years going through surgeries, painful skin grafts and physical therapy in order to recover. Christina (name changed to protect the identities of minor children) was devastated. What happened? Who was to blame?

They wanted answers and they deserved justice. We saw to it they got both.

(Corpus Christi) – Billy Edwards, of the Edwards Law Firm, has been sworn in as a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA), a by-invitation-only organization dedicated to preserving the vision of equal justice for all Americans, elevating standards of civility, ethics and integrity in the legal profession, and protecting the independence of the judiciary.

Only attorneys that “display high personal character and honorable reputation” are invited to join, according to the organization.

“Our forefathers considered the right to trial by jury as critical to the preservation of American freedoms. I am honored to join ABOTA's fight to preserve and protect the jury system as envisioned by the U.S. Constitution,” Edwards said.
