Emergency crews arrived quickly and transported the child to a nearby hospital. Despite medical efforts, she did not survive her injuries.

Our heartfelt sympathies go out to the child’s family and loved ones during this heartbreaking time.

Pedestrian Accidents in Texas

Houston, TX – Young Girl Fatally Struck by Car on Concourse DrPedestrian accidents in Texas continue to be a major concern, especially in busy urban areas. The Texas Department of Transportation reports that thousands of pedestrians are injured or killed yearly in motor vehicle collisions. Factors such as speeding, distracted driving, and poor visibility contribute to these incidents. Many accidents occur in school zones or residential areas where children frequently travel on foot.

Understanding pedestrian accident risks is crucial. Here are some common causes:

  • Failure to Yield to Pedestrians – Drivers are required to yield to pedestrians in crosswalks, yet many collisions occur due to motorists not stopping. These accidents can result in severe injuries or fatalities.
  • Distracted Driving – Drivers using cell phones, eating, or engaging in other distractions often fail to notice pedestrians crossing the road. This increases the risk of accidents in school zones and residential areas.
  • Speeding in Residential Areas – Higher speeds reduce reaction times, making it difficult for drivers to stop in time for pedestrians. School zones and neighborhoods have lower speed limits to help protect children, but not all drivers obey them.
  • Poor Visibility – Dark clothing, low lighting, or obstructions near intersections can make it harder for drivers to see pedestrians. Accidents are more common in the early morning or late afternoon when lighting changes rapidly.
