San Antonio, TX (February 15, 2025) - A pedestrian was injured in a hit-and-run crash on the West Side of San Antonio on Friday evening.

Authorities say the accident occurred around 7:04 p.m. along the 1200 block of Castroville Road. A 61-year-old man was walking across the roadway when a silver car traveling westbound struck him. Following the collision, the driver initially stopped and attempted to assist the man. Bystanders at the scene directed the driver to park in a nearby lot, but instead of returning, the driver fled. Police are now searching for the motorist involved.

Emergency medical services transported the injured pedestrian to a local hospital. His injuries were described as non-life-threatening. Authorities continue to investigate the crash, and anyone with information about the driver is urged to contact local law enforcement.

We hope the injured man makes a full recovery.

Pedestrian Accidents in Texas

San Antonio, TX – Pedestrian Struck in Hit-and-Run on Castroville RdPedestrian accidents occur frequently in Texas, with many leading to significant injuries or fatalities. In 2022, the Texas Department of Transportation reported over 5,000 pedestrian crashes across the state, resulting in more than 800 deaths. These incidents often involve reckless driving, failure to yield, or distracted motorists.

Understanding the risks pedestrians face can help prevent future accidents. Here are some key factors contributing to pedestrian-related crashes:

  • Failure to Yield: Many drivers fail to stop for pedestrians at crosswalks or intersections. This is a common cause of crashes, especially in areas without clear signage or signals.
  • Hit-and-Run Incidents: Some drivers flee accident scenes due to fear of legal consequences. Leaving an injured person without assistance can lead to severe legal repercussions for the driver.
  • Poor Visibility at Night: A large percentage of pedestrian accidents happen after dark. Limited street lighting and dark clothing can make it difficult for drivers to see people walking along or crossing the road.
  • Jaywalking and Unsafe Crossings: Pedestrians crossing outside designated areas face a higher risk of being struck. In high-traffic locations, crossing at marked intersections can reduce the likelihood of an accident.
  • Speeding Drivers: Higher speeds reduce reaction time, making it harder for motorists to stop in time to avoid pedestrians. This is particularly dangerous in urban areas with heavy foot traffic.
