Houston, TX (January 17, 2025) – A motor vehicle accident claimed the life of one construction worker and left another seriously injured on Thursday morning, January 16, in southwest Houston.
The deadly collision occurred around 8:45 a.m. in the 4000 block of West Orem Drive at White Heather Drive, where a construction crew had been working on a sidewalk. Authorities from the Houston Police Department’s Vehicular Crimes Division responded to the scene.
According to HPD Commander D. Crawford, a 39-year-old man driving a Nissan Sentra disregarded traffic barrels marking the construction zone and struck a worker. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver continued on, hitting a second worker who sustained serious injuries. A third worker was narrowly missed.
The Nissan then collided with a utility pole before spinning into the intersection and crashing into a Lexus. The driver of the Lexus was unharmed. Police detained the driver of the Nissan. Investigators continue to review the details of this tragic crash.
Our condolences go out to the family of the deceased, and we hope for a full recovery for the injured worker.
