Corpus Christi, TX (October 31, 2024) – A fatal accident reported in the Corpus Christi area claimed the lives of two people. The accident took place on October 28, just before 7:30 p.m.
Reports from Texas Highway Patrol indicate that a 2016 Dodge Ram 2500 pickup truck driven by 32-year-old Junior Velasquez was traveling on the northbound side of Interstate Highway 37 when it collided with a Volkswagen Atlas head-on near mile marker 53. The pickup truck was traveling in the wrong direction at the time of the collision. The impact caused the Volkswagen to go off the roadway and come to rest near the center median. The vehicle caught on fire with multiple people inside. Both of the individuals in the Volkswagen, identified as 44-year-old Jessica Thompson and 45-year-old Joseph Thompson, were fatally injured. They were pronounced deceased by authorities. The driver of the Dodge was taken into police custody and is currently facing two counts of intoxication manslaughter. At this time, the incident is under investigation.
