Zapata, TX – Three Killed in Two-Vehicle Car Crash on TX-16

Zapata, TX (August 26, 2024) – Authorities confirmed that several people lost their lives as a result of a motor vehicle accident in Zapata. The incident occurred just after 1:00 p.m. on August 23.

Official reports indicate that a passenger car was heading eastbound on Texas State Highway 16 during the afternoon hours. At the same time, a pickup truck was traveling westbound. For unknown reasons, one of the vehicles crossed over the center line and collided with the other vehicle head-on. The impact of the crash caused the passenger car to catch on fire. The driver and passenger died as a result of the injuries they suffered. The driver of the pickup truck and two passengers were transported to area hospitals for emergency care.
