San Antonio, TX (August 6, 2024) – A major motor vehicle accident reported on Sunday evening in San Antonio left a young child injured. At around 11:00 p.m. on August 4, emergency officials were called to the scene of the accident on Interstate 37 near Southeast Military Drive.
Reports show that an 18-year-old male was traveling on the interstate in a Mitsubishi. As the vehicle proceeded southbound while racing a second vehicle on the highway, the driver lost control, went off the roadway, and struck a grassy exterior median. A 12-year-old girl was ejected from the automobile. The girl landed on top of an SUV, which was parked in an apartment parking lot near the area. The girl was severely injured as a result of the crash. She was rushed to an area hospital, where she was admitted in critical condition. At this time, the incident is under investigation. We hope the injured child recovers quickly following this crash.
Speeding significantly increases the likelihood of car crashes for various reasons. Firstly, excessive speed reduces a driver's reaction time, making it harder to respond to sudden changes in traffic or road conditions effectively. This delayed reaction can lead to an inability to brake in time or maneuver to avoid a collision, resulting in accidents. Additionally, speeding reduces a driver's control over their vehicle, especially when navigating corners or curves, increasing the risk of losing control and crashing.
Moreover, higher speeds amplify the impact and severity of collisions. When a speeding vehicle crashes, the force of the impact is greater, causing more extensive damage to vehicles and more severe injuries to occupants. Speeding also reduces the effectiveness of safety features like airbags and seat belts, further escalating the risk of injuries in a crash.
