Corpus Christi, TX (May 22, 2024) – A boat accident reported in the Corpus Christi area on Monday evening claimed one person’s life. On May 20, authorities were notified that they were needed at the scene of an accident near the Marker 37 Marina.
Official reports indicate that a boat collision occurred in the area near Padre Island. One person on the boat, identified as 63-year-old James Byma, sustained injuries as a result of the accident. One additional victim, identified as 73-year-old Steven Chaney, was fatally injured. He was pronounced deceased by authorities. The United States Coast Guard, the Corpus Christi Fire Department, and the Nueces County Emergency Services District all responded to assist. Investigations into the accident are currently ongoing.
