Corpus Christi, TX (March 2, 2024) - On Thursday, February 29, a woman was injured after a hit-and-run accident in the Corpus Christi area. The crash was reported on S. Naples Street at around midnight. A 32-year-old woman was riding on a moped when she was hit by a motor vehicle.
Emergency crews were quickly dispatched to provide aid to the crash victim. The injured party was transported to a local hospital for treatment of sustained injuries. The at-fault driver fled the scene without rendering aid to the injured rider.
The driver, identified as 29-year-old Ryan Aguilar, was later located by authorities and taken into custody. No additional information on the accident is currently available at this time. An ongoing investigation into the cause of the collision is being handled by local law enforcement officials.
Our thoughts are with the injured victim and her family at this time. We hope for a full recovery.
A moped is like a motorcycle but usually much smaller with even fewer protections. An estimated 40 percent of moped collisions result in bone fractures and nearly 31.7 percent end in some level of head trauma. Injuries resulting from a motorcycle crash and a moped accident can be quite similar, and wearing a helmet plays an important role in limiting risk. Unfortunately, even riders who follow all the required safety precautions can still be seriously hurt due to the actions of a reckless driver. Riders are almost 27 times more likely to be killed in the event of a crash compared to someone traveling in a motor vehicle.
